Managing Director Daphne Tonge has acquired UK & Commonwealth rights for the graphic novel adaptation of Holly Black’s beloved YA series, The Folk of the Air.

Beginning with the bestselling and award-winning The Cruel Prince, Black will be scripting the adaptation, with stunning manga-inspired artwork illustrated by Irene Díaz Miranda and Laura Moreno Fernández (XNS). The Cruel Prince will be released in Spring 2028, with The Wicked King to follow in 2029 and The Queen of Nothing in 2030.

Daphne Press acquired the rights for The Folk of the Air graphic novels from Joanna Volpe at New Leaf Literary Agency and Heather Baror-Shapiro of Baror International, Inc. Cat Aquino, Assistant Editor at Daphne Press, will be editing.

Tonge says, “We are so honoured to develop The Folk of the Air series as fully illustrated graphic novels, bringing these iconic characters and scenes to life! I am absolutely delighted that Holly has entrusted the team at Daphne Press to adapt her beloved trilogy, and excited to work with Irene and Laura, whose illustrations perfectly invoke the charm and intrigue of Elfhame. This project is a true collaboration and labour of love for all parties involved. We can’t wait for fans and new readers to fall in love with Jude, Cardan and the rest of Faerie all over again.”

Black adds, “I’m thrilled to see Jude, Cardan, and the rest of Elfhame come to life in an entirely new way through these gorgeous graphic novels—Irene and Laura have captured the dangerous beauty of Faerie with breathtaking precision.

“From the first, Daphne, Cat, and everyone at Daphne Press has shared my vision for books that would bring all the scheming, betrayal, and romance of The Folk of the Air series into vivid, illustrated form. I believe both long-time readers and those entering Elfhame for the first time will find themselves equally enchanted.”

Díaz Miranda and Moreno Fernández say, “Thanks to Holly, who trusted in our art, and to the team at Daphne Press, who trusted in our extensive experience creating manga, we now find ourselves working on a project that feels like living in a lucid dream. We are transposing The Folk of the Air’s wonderful story into panels and bringing the secrets hidden within the deep roots of Elfhame to life through our illustrations. This adaptation is being undertaken with the utmost respect and pure passion for the original novels, and it is our sincere wish that readers will be able to connect with and cherish the graphic novels as deeply as we do.”
